the scales are what inspired me in the first place. The picture I used for this piece really is an awesome one.

there are a couple ways to blend colors. you can use a fine artists brush to blend the pigment together so the tooth of the paper is completely filled thus enabling you to build the color in such a rich way.
Or you simply use your lighter tinted pencils to blend but you have to do this veeeeery lighty. the harder you press the more difficult you make if for yourself to layer the color and layering is what its allll about!
And thirdly is the "blending pencil" it looks kinda see-through and whiteish, its different from all the rest of the pencils. Its sole purpose is blending. Once you use it to blend your colors you layer color over top so the top coat of color looks richer. I dont use this at all really, but its nice to have handy.
last but not least there is the ol white colored pencil for blending, but I have a better pencil in mind for this job and its called "light green" this colored pencil beats the pants off white for blending because it dosent make the colors underneath look dull. It adds pizazz and color depth where as white basically kills the color. In some cases white is a better choice, it all depends on the project. hope this helps.
